This study investigates the cause of the low life satisfaction of Korean middle-aged and older adults and to verify the effect of intimate relationship and public social security that can reduce the risk of decreasing life satisfaction late in life caused by the deterioration of health, retirement, decrease in income, and loss of a spouse. We analyze the determinants of life satisfaction through a fixed-effect model and survival analysis using longitudinal data from the 1st to 7th wave of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing. Consequently, housing stability and intimate social relationships significantly increase the life satisfaction of middle-aged and older people. With these factors, public social security can prevent life satisfaction from being too low. To increase life satisfaction late in life, it is necessary to secure stable income by expanding public social security, removing the inconvenience in daily life, and providing a place to accelerate social activities.
